National Estuaries Day

This year, National Estuaries Day is joining forces with National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public lands.  Both events are September 26, 2009. On National Public Lands Day 2009 an estimated 130,000 volunteers will plant trees, remove invasive plants, pick up trash and restore streams and shorelines at 2,000 parks and other public lands across the country.

NPLD coordinators are working with the staff of the 27 National Estuarine Research Reserves to coordinate activities, educate volunteers about public lands and water resources, and inspire the public to get involved in protecting our estuaries and other wetlands.   Join us in celebrating our public lands and water resources this September. For more information and to register an event, visit www.publiclandsday.org.

National Public Lands Day is sponsored by the National Environmental Education Foundation.  National Estuaries Day is supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Estuarine Research Reserve Association.
