Friends & partners

More than half of the National Estuarine Research Reserves in the system have a friends group or foundation that provides support on the local level. Find the reserve nearest you to learn more about a local friends group you can join.

NERRA has teamed up with these nonprofit organizations to develop a network to increase the ability of the friends groups to support NERRA and the national system. This Friends and Foundations Network has enhanced communication among friends groups, allowed friends groups to share information, and provided an ongoing forum for discussion.

Reserves also work with hundreds of partner organizations at the local, state, and regional levels, including universities, nonprofits, advocacy groups, municipalities, and state and regional agencies. At the national level, NERRA works closely with the Coastal States Organization, Restore America’s Estuaries, NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management, Digital Coast, Ocean Conservancy, Association of National Estuary Programs, National Marine Sanctuaries Foundation, Sea Grant Association, and the Integreated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Association.

I’ve always viewed Elkhorn Slough as a window on the larger natural world. Through our work here, have learned how critical wetlands are to the functioning of both the natural and the human economy.
