We are thrilled to welcome the 29th member of our national system of special places along the coast – the He‘eia National Estuarine Research Reserve. We are deeply grateful to Senator Brian Schatz and others who were proud, persistent, and vocal champions for the instatement of this reserve.

“The Reserve recognizes Native Hawaiian and western management science and will use both to study the Kane’ohe Bay estuary,” said Senator Schatz.  “I am excited to see what we may discover when Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners work with University of Hawai’i’s scientists to understand He‘eia.”

Mahalo, Senator!
