A Weeklong Celebration of Estuaries

This year marked 36 years of celebrating our nation’s estuaries and the many benefits they bring to our communities. What began in 1988 as a day to recognize the importance of estuaries has become a weeklong event that encourages thousands of community members to enjoy and support the places they love.
Coastal restoration organizations, federal and state agencies, and Members of Congress joined Restore America’s Estuaries (RAE), NERRA, and the Association of National Estuary Programs (NEP) to celebrate National Estuaries Week 2024!
NERRA is grateful to our friends at NOAA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for their unending support of estuaries, not just during one week, but all year.
But above all, we are thankful to everyone who turned out for estuaries and communicated the benefits they provide. We only have space to include some of our favorites below, but if you want to see how overwhelming the outpouring of love for estuaries was this year, check out #EstuariesWeek and #WadeIn on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
