This year’s NERRS annual FilmFest will be in honor of our first in-person annual meeting after three long years! There will be prizes, a viewing party, and NERRS/NERRA microfame on NERRA’s Youtube channel! This festival celebrating Reserves and our coasts will be hosted at lunchtime on Wednesday from 12:00PM-1:30PM. Entries are due by October 1st.
This year’s FilmFest theme is all about reconnecting: with your community, your estuary, and with other NERRds. We want you to wow us with films that show how you are engaging with your communities to make our estuaries more resilient, while highlighting diverse audiences and unique partnerships.
The FilmFest is open to all non-professional videographers. Films should be less than 5 minutes and can be clips from longer films. The goal is to highlight Reserves, our partners, and the amazing coastal resources we protect. Film selection will be by a panel of judges and participants can compete to win a piece of NERRA swag.
Don’t forget Jace’s tips for a great video:
- Keep your camera steady
- Use a tripod
- Take lots of short clips
- Have the sun behind you
- Take more footage than you need
- Be creative!
Contact Jennifer Plunket or Jace Tunnell if you have any questions or if you’re interested in being a judge at this year’s FilmFest – we’re looking for volunteers.
NERRA is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Coastal Zone Management Act—the legislation that led to the creation of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Want more Reserve stories delivered to your inbox? Subscribe to our newsletter.
