Coastal restoration organizations, federal and state agencies, and Members of Congress joined Restore America’s Estuaries (RAE), NERRA, and the Association of National Estuary Programs (NEP) to celebrate National Estuaries Week 2023!
This year marked the 35th annual celebration of our nation’s coasts and the many benefits they bring to our communities. What began in 1988 as a day to recognize the importance of estuaries has become a weeklong event that encourages thousands of community members to enjoy and support the places they love.
NERRA is grateful to the 46 members of Congress who reached across the aisle to recognize National Estuaries Week—the highest number in recent memory. We also appreciate our friends at NOAA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for their unending support of estuaries, not just during one week, but all year.
But most of all, we appreciate everyone who not only turned out for estuaries, but also communicated the benefits they provide. We’ve included some favorite shout outs below, but you can find the full collection under #EstuariesWeek and #WadeIn on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
