The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve in California protects a diverse range of species, including sea lions, California sea otters, and harbor seals. The reserve is also known for its incredible birding opportunities. The area has experienced significant loss of salt marsh in the last 100 years and reserve staff are responsible for trying to understand the reasons behind this loss and developing methods for restoring this critical habitat.
