1987The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve encompasses 2,250 acres of field, forest, salt marsh, and sandy beach in southern Maine. Its headquarters and main access for 30,000 annual visitors are at historic Laudholm Farm, a local landmark since the 17th century. The reserve’s science program is focused on climate change, environmental monitoring, ecosystem service valuation, habitat restoration, and shoreline stabilization. Educators reach “K through gray” audiences through more than 150 programs each year.
