Welcome, MAD Fellows!

We are excited to welcome the second cohort of Margaret A. Davidson Graduate Fellows to the NERRS family. The first cohort has been doing meaningful work and now—thanks to the support of our congressional champions—another generation of coastal scientists will get their start at a Reserve through this national program.
Each fellow will conduct research in collaboration with local scientists, community leaders, and others at one of the Reserves in our System. All of the research is focused on issues of vital interest to local communities.
During this two-year experience, fellows have the opportunity to hone their skills in collaborative science, which engages local stakeholders directly in the research process. By engaging multi-disciplinary perspectives into their work, the students learn to focus on outcomes that are applicable to local coastal resource management needs and decision-making.
The program honors the legacy of NOAA’s Margaret A. Davidson, a coastal management visionary and strong champion for Reserves and the communities they serve.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to the next generation of NERRds!
NERRA is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Coastal Zone Management Act—the legislation that led to the creation of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Want more Reserve stories delivered to your inbox? Subscribe to our newsletter.
